Ian Strain-Seymour
Director of Product Development and Strategy
Ian Strain-Seymour leads Apogee Results' product development team, working to deliver next generation tools for Apogee's teams. He espouses the credo that "he/she/it with the most, and best quality, data wins." With expertise in web analytics, online marketing, ecommerce, and user experience design, Ian works with Apogee's clients to optimize their marketing mix and website experience to meet their strategic goals.
Said more simply, he helps them realize their goals, then develops a plan to get them there and ensures they have the data to measure their progress and optimize their performance.
He speaks and writes on topics related to web and marketing, search marketing, user experience design, and the emergence of the semantic web.
Prior to his work at Apogee, Ian was the Director of Strategic Accounts and Consulting for Coremetrics. In his role, he assisted Coremetrics' largest clients, such as Bank of America, IHG, QVC, and W.W. Grainger, in effectively using data and going through the organizational changes necessary to become data driven organizations, making strategic marketing and website decisions based on hard data rather than gut decisions and nebulous best practices.
Before relocating to Austin TX, Ian worked as a consultant for UPS, where he created the business case and defined the business requirements for a web analytics solution for UPS.com. He led the Strategic Information Planning team at Macquarium Intelligent Communications, a leading interactive agency based in Atlanta, GA. While at Macquarium, his work included the information architecture and user experience design of websites for Storagetek, Sam Goody, and various websites and intranet portals for HSBC in the UK, India, and the Philippines.
Ian attended Georgia Tech’s graduate program in information design and technology. That was his second tour of duty at Georgia Tech; his first was as an undergraduate student in architecture, where he learned to think of the world as a design problem. He also spent a year studying in Paris, where he learned a lot, but his French is still bad.
When not online, Ian can be found raising his son, catching up on his reading, clearing out his DVR, traveling, or learning to sketch (again). You can follow Ian as @ifss on Twitter or read his posts on the Apogee Results blog.
