[...] … and saw the information was indeed correct. So off I went… only to find it doesn’t exist. So I call the number on the website and find out that it’s been disconnected. Great. You’d think people would be nice enough to erase the website for a business that doesn’t exist anymore so they don’t waste … Importance of Local Search Optimization Increases [...]

Its crazy to think that after all this time, very few businesses are taking advantage of local search whether paid or natural. The trend is changing quickly though. A friend of mine works for one of the big yellow page providers and they are losing business in droves to web based agencies.

Hey Mason,

First, the comment is appreciated. Regarding online yellow page type websites, I'd recommend keeping your regular listing on all of these websites -- if the paid ads aren't worth the investment it certainly makes sense to liberate yourself though :) Search engines, Google Maps for instance, use these listings to verify addresses, and as both incoming links and citations. In the image, you'll notice a Greenling's Superpages.com profile is listed under the Web Pages tab in Google Maps.

This year I completely cancelled all Yellow pages ads....It was such a liberating moment. Doesn't appear we received any business from print or online yellow pages last year.
